STREET TO STRIP

Garwin Beukes - Big Boy Racing and Windhoek Motor Club's finals of the Street 2 Strip drag racing event ended off on a high note. Amazing runs, saddening breakdowns and the smell of burnt rubber made for an amazing day.

The night started slow on Friday with only a few car's making their way to the track. The saying “quality beats quantity” came into play when some of the drag racing forces going head to head.

Some of the highlights of the night were the competitive runs between the blue Golf 6R and white Golf 7r which amazed many.

As usual the spoon styled Honda Civic impressed many but later on had difficulties with it's gears.

The most exciting race for the night was the old rivalry and close finish of Deon Diergard's turbocharged Toyota Corrolla and Devon Farmer's RB25 powered Nissan 300zx.

Devon Farmer was crowned the winner of the event and says the initiative behind the event was to promote legal racing and keep illegal racing of the streets. The type 5 winners are as follows.

  1. Devon Farmer
  2. Dilano Strauss
  3. Dirkie Beukes
  4. Jannis Janser
  5. Duke Beukes
