Motocross rider shines in SA

King of the Dirt

With trails of dust clouds, deafening sounds of hundreds of riled up engines and wind hammering into faces, motocross is not for the faint of heart. That is with exception to Namibian motocross athlete, Mark Sternagel, who beat the odds and secured second place at the Zone 7 Regional/Club MX Race in Cape Town.

The event took place in the Western Cape, South Africa on Saturday, 27 May, and showcased the best of what Africa has to give.

Our Namibian is no stranger to the track, having ridden motorbikes since the age of three. He has won “King of the Dirt” in all meets this year and is fiercely determined to take home the club's Championship at the end of the year.

Sternagel says that motocross is his greatest passion. He takes a keen interest in developing the sport by mentoring young cyclists and sharing his knowledge and experience with them. “I was able to get two second places in MX1, finishing second overall for MX1. I had to give it my full effort, and yes it was a great feeling, and an accomplishment, but still there is a lot of work to be done,” Sternagel commented.

The Zone 7 Regional Club competition provides Namibian athletes with the necessary exposure to different competitors, thereby helping them improve their time and performance in preparation for the Gallina MX 2017 Championship which will take place on 10 June.
