A night at the tracks


Barry de Klerk - This weekend the engines will be roaring and the tyres will be spinning as Windhoek gets ready for Friday motor racing at the Tony Rust Racetrack.

Leg 8 of the Namibian National Drag Racing Championship will take place at the event and organiser promise to kick things up to another level. The race is hosted by Windhoek Motor Club (WMC) and will have tons of prizes for the various category winners.

According to Bradley Ferreira, PRO for the event, the first, second and third placed drivers and motorcycle riders will win a prize. This time around there will also be prizes for the spectators of the races.

The quarter-mile track will be hot as some of Namibia’s best racers will be competing. Big Boy Racing compiled a list of the top 20 fastest race times for both bikes and cars. Competitors will be challenged to beat this time and set new records. “Action can be expected with Namibia’s best and favourites rocking up to battle over the quarter mile,” Ferreira said.

The cooler temperature made the crowds shrink over the past few months, but with spring on the way the organisers hope to attract new motor enthusiasts. “With temperatures warming up this will be a great opportunity for the motorsports enthusiast to make their way to the track and enjoy some thrilling races,” he said.

After the last cars cross the finishing line, there will be a prize giving ceremony and all spectators are welcome to make their way onto the track. After all the prizes are handed over, there will be an after party with special guest DJ’s. The gates to the track will open at 17:00 and drinks and food will be sold at the clubhouse. Tickets will be sold at the gates.
