Honda CR-V - A Dream Come True

Honda seems to recognize only one worthy opponent - themselves. Each and every time Honda releases a new product, it is a major leap from their previous product. Continuously improving on both major and less noticeable details, any Honda model becomes the brand to have. With the brand new CR-V which has just been released, it is official - Honda thinks of everything.

Designed to provide even more comfort, the cabin is spacious for both passengers and luggage, while having improved materials for both the finishings and the seating. A fresh exterior design and the all new state of the art full colour infotainment system, are bound to turn some heads while you cruise down the highway. Especially if you opt to pay a bit more and go for the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine.

The features available with the all new CR-V includes a longer and broader body, higher ground clearance, an aluminium-look front and rear scuff plates and 17-inch alloy wheels. Where the  Comfort and Elegance models have halogen headlights, the Executive and Exclusive models have LED headlights and running lights, while providing cornering lights and self-dimming headlights, for a safer and friendly drive.

Honda Namibia currently stocks the 1.5T Executive, featuring larger 18 inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, automatic leveling headlines, push-to-start, keyless entry and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay. Plug-ins include four USB ports, two 12V sockets and an HDMI port; this all in the center console, which happens to be large enough to actually fit your laptop in there while it is charging. This model even has some interesting features on its key - you can actually start the car from outside (so the car can start cooling down and the turbo can start working before you drive off) and if maybe both you and your spouse drives the car, you can actually select one of two options on the car which will adjust the seat as per the option's memory database, as you unlock the vehicle. That's right, the CR-V has two memory slots for the driver's electronic seat.

A rear-view camera is also standard on all models, however the Executive will offer you 3 angles instead of one, making parking and reversing way easier. Another rear-view function inside the cabin, is the conversation mirror hidden in the glasses-holder. This will be especially great for families with smaller children, as you can keep an eye on them while relaxing in the front. From the backseat you also now have a better view of the front window and the road, as the new bucket-seat style provide a slimmer and more comfortable position.

Smaller comfort details include the leather trimmed steering wheel, heating function for the electric side mirrors, automatic windscreen wipers, the left side mirror adjusts downwards when you reverse, and the microphone for Bluetooth calls is now situated in the steering wheel while another microphone is situated at the back of the cabin for noise cancellation purposes. The back windows are tinted, as in the previous models, all doors can be opened at a 90 degree angle, and the designers made an ever so small adjustment to the rear passenger entry so that you can literally just slide in without worrying about bumping your head.

So those are the fancier and nice to have things that one looks at when purchasing a car for the look and feel of it. And while we must admit that these are all very nice things, we would like to point out the technical side of the Honda CR-V. Honda provided a choice of 2 petrol engines, namely the 2-litre engine with a front-wheel-drive, 113 kW and 189 Nm of torque and a consumption of 7.3 litres per 100km; and the new 1.5-litre turbopetrol egine, offering outputs of 140kW and 240 Nm of torque, mated with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with manual shift paddles, the fuel consumption is an estimated 7.0 litres per 100km. Both the Executive and the Exclusive feature and improved all-wheel drive system, providing safer travels. A digital speedometer has now taken its place in all of the CR-V's derivatives, making it easier to watch your vehicle's outputs. To make the vehicle especially unique, Honda offers one of a kind rim sets for the new CR-V, which you can get exclusively at the Honda branches.

Reviewers have rated the driving quality of the new CR-V to be impeccable, being solid and composed on the road and extremely responsive steering. The spaciousness of the SUV makes it a great choice for a family car, but can also equal as an ideal long distance vehicle for the lonesome traveler. So what do you think? Do you feel like booking a test drive or just going in straight for the buy?
