Barry de Klerk - The monthly drags are back this weekend and this time a few racers from south of the border are looking to heat up the Namibian track.
Last month’s drag saw a major turnout and the promoters hope they can top that. Big Boy Racing (BBR) will once again be at the helm of promoting the event, while Outlaw Motor Club (OMC) is the main organiser. The Tony Rust Racetrack will host the event on Saturday, 28 September.
BBR and OMC promise that drag racing in Namibia will keep getting better and faster. The event is called the Nam vs SA Cross Border Drags. The best drag racers from both countries will go head to head to once and for all prove who the best is. This is the third instalment of the Nam vs SA series.
A team of racers from Cape Town known as the “Dak Vatters” since the last time they visited Namibia will once again bring heat to the drag strip. According to the even promoters they will be bringing some of their fastest cars and motorcycles to blow dust into the Namibians’ eyes. They have also been making a name for themselves on the Kallarney Raceway in the Mother City.
The gates will open early at 09:00 to make sure all racing enthusiasts get the best seats. According to Bradley Ferreira of BBR everyone should prepare for a tyre and fuel burning spectacle. He said that the event is set to be the biggest cross border drag racing extravaganza this year.
Namibian racers will also take on their fellow countrymen and women. While the South Africans will also get a chance to go head to head with their own team members. Ferreira said that this is a fight that will prove that Namibian racers are getting faster and faster. He said that no one should miss out on the event.
A pre-event will take place at the Tony Rust Racetrack on Friday, 27 September at 18:00. This will give racers the opportunity to enter the event before the big racing day. Motor racing enthusiast can also go meet the racers and get to know them better.
The main racing event will be followed by a special house music show on the track and it will start off at 21:00. Special guest DJ’s will keep the crowd on their feet till late into the night. Tickets for the drags will be sold at the event at N$100 each and N$20 for children.
