Garwin Beukes - One small step for Allan Hill, one giant leap for vehicle customizing fanatics in Namibia.
The Ricky's Custom Car Show Fest which took place at the Ramatex factory in Windhoek on Saturday housed more than 500 vehicles and 1700 people on the day.
A record for vehicle entries at a one day motor show was set.
The variety of vehicles that entered were phenomenal. Priority however was given two five categories including, custom, old school, under construction, purpose built and sound off.
Winners of the first places were, an E36 BMW bakkie titled Sheriff in the 'Purpose Built' category.
A Chevrolet Fleetside truck took the 'Under Construction' category.
The 'Old School' category was taken by a Ford Escort.
The winner of the night and the winner of the 'Custom' category was the Audi S3.
Amongst all the entries six vehicles were fitted with air suspension most of which lowered so much so that the body touches the ground.
Organizer Allan Hill said he was pleased to see the commitment by Namibians to build the growing car customizing industry with their support and was surprised by the turn out the amount of customized cars which entered.
One of the competitors Joey Beukes said he literally built his car to compete in this show. “Even though I didn't win a category this year I know there's still a lot of work to be done and next year I'm coming back stronger”, he said.
The event was judged by the CapeStance team from Cape town, South Africa. Founder of CapeStance, Tauriq Ajam said he wished only the best for Namibian car fanatics and encouraged individuals to build what they can to the best of their ability and never allow someone else's project to effect theirs.
