Buying rims

Garwin Beukes - So you've had your car for some time and want to add a set of rims.

First things first, you'll need to find out what your cars pitch circle diameter (PCD) is.

Knowing your PCD will help you establish which rims are compatible with your car and limit the range to choose from. Your rim size is determined by the maximum wheel diameter appropriate with your car and of course your preference.

Here's a look at a few prime examples:

  • Vw Polo- 5x100
  • Vw Golf- 5x112
  • Ford Figo- 4x108
  • Ford Fiesta- 4x108
  • BMW 3 series- 5x120
  • Toyota Corolla- 5x100
  • Toyota Hilux- 6x139.7
  • Honda Brio- 4x100

Next week we'll take a look at the different wheel styles, sizes and brands which go with certain looks and purposes.
