Typical BMW, the new luxury vehicle easily glides into its class while raising the standards even higher. With a sleek exterior defined by sharply drawn lines across the entire side of the body, creates that look of an agile and muscular motor with the ability to take on any rival.
Originally introduced in 1991, the 8 Series was a short lived model, and production of this car was halted worldwide in 1999 due to poor sales, and ultimately discontinued. There are still a few models available in South Africa, but generally, they are scarce. BMW announced in June 2018 that the coupe would make a comeback to the vehicle market, and in February 2019 the first shipment was launched on African soils.
The 8 Series is a low rider and looks both exotic and muscular, however it boasts with a longer body – giving it a lean appearance - measuring 4 843 mm in length, 1 902 mm in width, 1 341 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2 822 mm.
Making its way to Namibia, the M850i xDrive boasts a new 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 motor; producing 390 kW and 750 Nm. The factory reports zero to 100 km/h in an apparent 3.7 seconds. It has been claimed by its engineers to consume an average of 10.0 L of petrol per 100 km in perfect conditions.
Inside, the Coupe does not disappoint – wireless charging, a heads-up display and an 11 speaker sound-system. The front sports seats also have both heating and cooling functions. The driver assistance system has an array of functions, such as BMW’s Personal Co-Pilot, targeted assistance, auto braking, collision and pedestrian warnings, Lane Keeping Assist and Active Cruise Control.
Fair to say, the 8 Series Coupe will be an eye catcher on the roads of Windhoek but we know you will want to take her out for a long romantic drive, to put her through her paces and experience the thrill that will make your pulse race.
So let’s talk cash. Luxury does not come cheap, and you will have to set aside near 2 million in order to own this beast. Though keep an eye out, as Pupkewitz BMW usually offers amazing deals to make sure you get the car of your dreams!
